Room 4 2010

Hello everyone, it is great to be back posting on our class blog. We have had a very busy Term 1. The weather has been stunning and we have been glad that our school has a lovely pool. We had our swimming sports in February. In Week 6 the Year 6's went to camp for 4 days. We went to Shakespear Lodge which is situated in Shakespear Regional Park on the Whangaparoa peninsula north of Auckland. I will get the students to post some comments and photos.

Week 8 Term 2.

What a fabulous week we had with all the excitement during Bookweek. It was great to see so many children focusing on books and reading and showing so much enthusiasm for our visiting authors, librarian and the local Police. Everyone looked awesome on Friday for our dress-up day as a book character. I am not sure who that unusual lady was who was dressed as Aunty Elsie from "Kiss, Kiss, Yuck, Yuck"! The Bookfair was a huge success and it was wonderful that so many people donated a book to our school library-THANK YOU!
Miss McCallister has enjoyed her week with Room 4. She is looking forward to the next 6 weeks.
We had fun sharing our personal timelines with our class and then reading them to our buddy readers. We showed them an interactive book on our Interwrite board. (Have a look at the slideshow on the side)
Here is the Homelearning for week 8.
1. Mathletics-let's see if we can make an all out effort to have everyone qualifying for a silver certificate this week!
2. Wick-Ed- click on the Wick-Ed site and click on Interactives. Click on the Zoo. Read the story then complete the wordfind and the Cloze Missing words activity. Print them off if you can (or copy them out) then glue in your homelearning book.
3. Rainforest Maths- Click on Level D (dark orange) which is the same as our Year 5. Click on Fractions at the end of the Number row. When you finish the Shapes section try doing the ordering section. If you really feel confident have a go at equivalent fractions too. If you find all of this level too hard go back to the start and try Level C.
4.Wordle fun!- You'll enjoy this one. Create your own Wordle like the example on the right side of the blog. Choose any theme you like. SAVE it on the Wordle site and we will look at them on our Interwrite board.
Enjoy!

Wow Room 4, your Blog is awesome! I can't believe how much you have posted on it in recent weeks. I have spent ages reading your blog and comments. I too am excited about your interactive whiteboard, and it is lovely to have the photos recording its establishment in the super Room 4.
Silver Awards for Mathletics this week? A great challenge. Good luck Mathematicians. Keep up the awesome work.
Miss R :-)

Thanks Miss R for your wonderful comments, we really appreciate your feedback.
Kelsey-do as many questions as you want to have a go at. Do a few each night. When you finish the shapes section just go back to the start page and click on ordering.
Tarran-persevere with it, remember to leave a space between each word that you type in. Show me tomorrow at school what you are doing.

Hi Mrs Mac! Delia, Demi's mom speaking (typing! haha!) We are having a problem with the Wordle puzzle game. Demi went into the Create option, got the empty block and then typed in her text. She then hit 'go' as it is the only instruction button given. And all the text disappeared. We were left with a big blank box and no text. Distressed is not the word after all that typing! So I offerred to help and we quickly re-typed it as she had done before, and this time I checked with her for any alternative. But the only button given is the 'go' button and once again we have lost our text. I am assuming it is supposed to appear in the box, but that is not happening. What are we doing wrong? Help please! Thanks! DV xx

Hi Delia I have tried again with Wordle but there is no problem. When you hit 'Go' you need to wait a while and it does look like the words have disappeared but trust me they will reappear ready for editing if you wait long enough!! If you put lots of words in it will take quite a while. Once they come back you can then change the colours, layout etc.
Congratulations by the way!!

For those of you who are having trouble getting Wordle to work don't worry too much about it. Some people are finding their computer is too slow and others are being blocked from going on that site. We will have a go at doing them at school if you don't have any luck. Well done Alice for persevering!
